I thought I would try a different type of post this time. Instead of a bunch of banners, and product pics (I promise there will be some pics) I will just put the links in to my writing, I hope you like it. Your feedback is always welcomed and appreciated, It’s what keeps us growing and moving in the right direction. So with no further ado, GET OUT!!
GET OUT! AND HAVE FUN
Before you head out you should check your cars fluid levels, air filter, and tires for uneven tread wear and proper pressure, even the spare tire, & tool kit. A roadside assistance plan is always a plus.
It is after all summer time the best time to get outside and enjoy the sun. Soak in that vitamin D,C,A,&E (that last one might be a TV channel and a vitamin I’m not sure. haha) All those X-ray’s, Gamma Alpha Kappa ray’s do a body good. That and some good ol’ orange juice will cure you from the scurvy. Whether your plans are travel destinations (Camping, Glamping, Beachcombing, Cruising, or one of the Disney’s) or Staycationing (Day trips, Local Events, Movie nights, Backyard Shenanigans) this summer having the right supplies and a solid plan will make for a more relaxing time. I have scoured the world wide webz and found some great products and services to make your vacation more enjoyable less “DON’T MAKE ME PULL THIS CAR OVER!”
I’m a big guy so my first thought is food, snacks for the road, where we’ll eat along the way, grab n go breakfast items, solid meals for those evenings dining in, IF you’re lucky enough to get one. And the oh so important snacks and entertainment package for the dreadful rain day!! Also equally important is the clothes situation. Not only having enough under there’s, but the all around comfy clothes for every situation the days bring. Once you’re where you decide to be its time to get situated. A good chair sat just so, close enough to reach the cooler and stay in the shade. Whats that you say “no shade!” Well that’s Nothing a good wide brim straw hat cant fix. Or an umbrella, pop up gazebo type apparatus. Sit me there i,m good.
GET OUT! AND GO, OR STAY?
Well now that the car is good, the clothes are packed, and the food is situated within arms reach of everyone. Where are we going? Are we going at all? A lot of people spend a small fortune on their vacation getaways. Returning from them feeling more like they need a vacation than when they left. Spending 7 to 10 days in a constant state of frenzied activity trying to squeeze as much mind, body, and wallet draining fun in as possible. Gone are the beach trips where you can walk along the boardwalk and pop into a niche shop. Nope! now the beach is lined with hotels and rental houses and “do not touch my sand” signage! Giant blowup slides that are for hotel guests only. So you get to tell your kid no! on the trip where you said the answer would be yes. Oh, and those little niche shops are artisan co-ops now, they charge 10 times what it costs to make, and your funding “the man” if you don’t buy from them. So when it’s time to eat you either dine in your hotel restaurant, eat what you have brought with you, or you get in your car and drive for a while to find a decent establishment. Or you’re eating the same junk you eat back home the mac burgers, or king chickens. As you might see I am not a fan of the beach trip. Sad but true once again “the man” has ruined it for us all, I believe.
Staycationing is becoming a more popular, less expensive way to spend your vacation time. It is still your vacation from work, and if planned correctly can be a restful time. Maybe the first thing we should cover is hide your car and turn off your cell phone. If you don’t have a garage park your car somewhere accessible but not at your house. Turn off your cell ringer. I know some of you can’t breath without your cell phone, so we won’t ask you to turn them off. Again a solid plan saves the day, get your necessities(Food, Snackage, Food) you know the important thing.haha, in one trip so you aren’t running out daily. Researching out local events (Fairs, Wine tastings, Etc.) and planning your own shenanigans (Pool parties, BBQ’s, Paintball wars) can set you up for a fun week of events. Each ending with no travel time, no “ugh” I forgot my swim trunks. And the big plus for me, sleeping in my own bed! No matter how comfy a mattress is, it is not my bed. If you live in an area like mine there is always day trips to historical markers, rides along the Blue Ridge Parkway, or some nature thing to do.
GET OUT! AND ENJOY NATURE
I grew up camping, real camping none of this glamorous stuff they got now. Drive out in the woods (not to a camp ground) find a spot, pitch a tent, “boy” (me)”go collect wood”. Usually a spot off the blue ridge parkway, with an outhouse, and a pump your own water deal. Sleeping bags from the civil war (green on the outside tan with a man and a dog hunting( with a muzzle loader((old style gun)) pictured on the inside) That said I really would rather just stay home in my old age. No desire to put my kids through that hell or any new age version of it. Give me a cabin in the woods now, and i,m in. If camping is your thing then it has come light years from what I had to endure. Inflatable mattresses, air hammocks, 10, 12, even 14 person tents with separate rooms in them! Pod style tents that you can make your own little martian style city out of. Coolers that keep food cold for weeks not hours, or a day at best. Water purification bottles and straws just so u don’t feel icky for drinking fish bathroom water not to mention bacteria and parasites you don’t even think about. UV protectant clothing and swimwear for those days in the sun Swimming, Hiking, Kayaking, or just Lazing in the sun with a great book, it is your vacation after all. Why would you want to spend it all gooped up so your nose wont burn? If you’re out on the water instead of in it (Boating, Skiing, or fishing) a good SPF rated moisture wicking faceshield can keep you from becoming the extra crisp-y version of you.
Having said all that, let me add just get out!! Go outside and sweat, and play, and enjoy your time in the sun it really does a body good. As much as I dislike the beach it is soul refreshing to let the cool salt water pour over you after having worked up a sweat. Being outside with your family will be the best time you can spend vacationing or not. Guaranteed to be better than watching your kid play video games.
